Try Being Me is an interactive experience to accompany the latest Newsround Special, 'My Dyslexic Mind,' which aims to put you in the shoes of the children featured in the film. Find out about Ben, Khalaya, Zach and Rebekah who live with dyslexia. Experience what dyslexia is like for them and get a better understanding of what it's like to live with dyslexia. Dyslexia, literally meaning ‘difficulty with words’, in term that describes the symptoms rather than the causes of a range of specific learning difficulties. Dyslexia has no single cause and may result from underlying physiological or developmental conditions. Regrettably, it is frequently and loosely used by parents and teacher alike as a catch-all term for those who have difficulties with spelling or reading. The diagnosis of dyslexia requires an assessment by an educational psychologist; however the following questions may help you to recognize some of the indicators a dyslexic pupil might display. A significant combination of these could merit you referring the situation to the appropriate person at your school for example, the SENCO, who should then discuss with you whether to contact the Educational Psychology Service.
