When we first moved to Dubai we received a very cold response from most schools regarding my child's admission as he was suffering from down syndrome. Well then we tried our luck at CIS where we were fortunate to meet with an angel by the name of Ms. Suzie Hachez. The mere fact that she looked at him as any other prospective student meant the world to me.
His journey began at CIS in 2011 when he started year 1-8.He was always a very confident boy with a lot of enthusiasm for learning. But over the period of one year, he has shown progress that I as a parent had never imagined. He not only is eager to go to school but has become very competitive with his siblings in studies. He strives to earn the `Gem of the lesson` and is very eager to show it to us at home. His ability to read, write and communicate has improved so much in this past year that he challenges his sister in reading and keeps his older brother on his toes to perform better. Down syndrome is a congenital disorder in which a person is born with three copies of chromosome 21. Clinical features include mild to severe mental retardation, slanting eyes, a broad short skull, broad hands and short fingers.. Children with Down syndrome are primarily hurt throughout the midbrain and cortical areas of the brain.. This affects speech, understanding, vision and the development of manual function. These beautiful children are socially very pleasant and cheerful. Metabolically, they have some very distinct issues that are common to their injury. Children with these symptoms often also have mild to severe problems in the midbrain area as well; therefore, they display problems with basic hearing, visual convergence, sensation and physical coordination. These children are often also much delayed in mobility development.
